This week we are starting a blog to update the HablaCentro community about new features and new technical tools to play with on the different websites. If you have any questions please email us, info [at] hablacentro.com
(1) Projects
Editors will be able to create projects for any Habla. The idea is to allow support for subsidary collaborations and ideas. All projects have their own little page. An important part of projects is to keep people updated and you can now tie blog entries to a projects. These updates will show both on the project page and the blog.
(2) Framework for hover effects
We have released a complete framework for hover effects and dropdown menus through the site. The first example is the project dropdown in the menu bar. See http://www.hablaguate.com for an example.
(3) Threaded comments
To engage users you want to foster a dialogue. Threaded comments allow for a better discussion when you tie it with notifications. We have commenters but we didn't allow for threads in comments. We allow for three levels of replies currently.
(4) The blog link is now found in the main menu
(5) Notifications for new comments
To engage commenters you want to notify both the article authors and other commenters when a new comment is posted. Currently we send notifications when someone replies to your comment or comment on an article you write. We will only send one email so if someone replies to a comment you wrote on an article of yours you will only get one email.
(6) The calendar is now completely Rails driven
It now is tied to the timezone of the country (configurable) and automatically will aggregate across all sites for the HablaCentro calendar and the times will be valid for it. The HablaCentro.com calendar is currently based on PST times. You have tag suggestion here as well.
- We have prepared the event framework for categorization as well yet not turned it on until we internally can discuss the taxonomy of them.
- No events from the previously used GCals have been imported to this new calendar framework.
- You will see daily agendas a la GCal style when you click on the day number.
- You will be able to add events either by clicking the add your event link, click the icons in the monthly calendar or inside the daily agenda you can select
- Currently you cannot subscribe to the calendars but this will soon be made available.
(7) All emails are tagged by OpenCalais automatically
All emails retrieved are give tags by the suggest tags framework to improve SEO.
